Ties

Ties explores the complex evolution of a tense relationship. I express this with the imagery of a knitted garment that has frayed and deteriorated with time and neglect, eventually becoming a tangle of threads and knots. This remnant of knitted material personifies the close, warm relationship once shared. The deterioration and unraveling of the remnant suitably correlates to the now diminished bond, while the knotting of the unraveled strands expresses and explores my futile attempts to mend that relationship.
Recently, this body of work has also begun to explore the duality of both craving the relationship that used to be and questioning the memory of that relationship. The deterioration of the garment correlates to the diminished bond we currently share but also begins to question the validity of my recollections of that relationship's warmth. Subsequently, the knots act both as my futile attempts to mend that relationship and my attempts to reconcile my memories of the past with reality.

Structure

This work continues to explore the evolution of my relationship. This series delves into the complexity of that relationship. The rigid formality of the towers and patterns epitomizes the decorum in our interactions. My futile desire to ameliorate our relationship manifests in the breaking down and destruction of those patterns and tower structures.
