Trace monotypes can add a beautiful and ethereal look to your prints and have unlimited possibilities! Students will learn about the variety of mark making, layering, and textures possible as well as learning about some common problems and their solutions.
 
This workshop will cover ink types and modifications, the proper amount of ink, and tricks for layout and registration. It will also explore proper papers and tools, printing techniques, possibilities for variation and experimentation, and cleaning up in a home studio. This workshop is designed for those of all experience levels!

The Crown Book is a movable book structured created by the master of innovative folding techniques, Hedi Kyle. The book is reminiscent of origami, as only folds are used to create this quick and fun structure with removable pages and plenty of possibilities!

In this workshop, participants will learn to fold and assemble this fun, movable book as we discuss: methods for creating consistency, which materials provide benefits or challenges, and ways to modify the book and shape you ideas! If you are looking to learn a book structure that is highly adaptable and requires few materials, then this workshop is the one for you.

Virtual Workshop with The Center for Book Arts

Pochoir is a stenciling technique that is versatile and can be done with countless materials. This skill can be used to add decorative illustrations to your upcoming book projects in an accessible and creative way.
 
Students will learn how to create reusable, registered stencils out of flexible materials like Mylar – which can be used to print on a wide variety of surfaces. Over the course of the workshop, participants will learn to layer their stencils to produce an image of their own choosing. This workshop will also cover the basics of color theory, empowering participants to mix and blend colors as well as create gradients. No previous experience required!​

In this virtual workshop for beginners led by Instructor Beth Sheehan, students will learn the basics of pamphlet stitch. Sheehan will cover introductory topics including selecting proper materials and tools needed throughout the process.

​Once students have mastered the basics, Sheehan will demonstrate how to modify or adapt your pamphlet to suit various needs—turning simple structures into exciting explorations of form. Over the course of the class, each student will make a 5-hole accordion with a wrap-around cover pamphlet, a double-pamphlet, a french-door pamphlet, a pamphlet sewn to accordions, and a single leaf pamphlet.

Virtual Workshop with The Center for Book Arts

​This virtual class at Center for Book Arts is taught by instructor Beth Sheehan. In this introductory class you will learn the basic use of bookbinding tools and materials, along with bookbinding structures.

Students will learn about non-adhesive structures, bindings for single sheets, and other bindings that can be made with little specialized equipment.  Accordions, pamphlets, drum leaf books, and a variety of softcover bindings will be taught during the course.

This class is ideal for those who wish to learn simple forms for presenting work, or for building fundamental knowledge on bookbinding.
